Metelkova City

Metelkova City is an autonomous culture zone in the centre of Ljubljana. It is located on the site of former military barracks and was squatted September 1993. The space consists of seven buildings and 12,500m2 – making it a sort of city within a city. It is located close to the main train station, nearby Metelko Street.

At Metelkova City a range of activities have been held. These include an art gallery, bars, artists studios, space for designers, offices of cultural organisations and concerts featuring different types of live music from Free Jazz, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Punk rock, Heavy metal and Noise to Dub and Techno. There is also a Hostel Celica in Ljubljana, which has spaces in the building of the former military prison.
