“Druga godba” festival

This years’ festival, taking place from 28 to 30 May, will bring to Ljubljana 16 great concerts. Its musical landscape will be mostly psychedelic, with a prominent number of female voices and dub rhytms represented as well.
Druga Godba is a world music festival organized yearly in Ljubljana. It has, over its 31-year history, built a reputation as one of the most important music festivals in Central Europe. Its overall concept, variety of new approaches and enthusiasm for ‘discovering’ less well-known music from across the globe is unique to this part of the world.
Its programme was primarily concerned with different kinds of varieties in music: alternative rock, rock in opposition, adventurous new jazz, improvised music and experimental music, as well as rediscovered Slovenian folk music.

The first FLOW FESTIVAL LJUBLJANA will take place from June 26-28th in Tobačna mesto – a historic building complex of a tobacco factory that operated in the heart of Ljubljana for over 130 years. The walls hold countless stories from the past, but are now about to be a part of a wonderful new story that is Flow Festival Ljubljana.

63th Ljubljana Festival 2015

The trademark of Festival Ljubljana represents some of the most important and recognized annual events happening from the end of June till the start of September. International philharmonic orchestra concerts, open-air cinema, fine arts colony, opera, ballet, theatre and 61 years of tradition give this festival high artistic value and credibility.
The 63th edition of the Ljubljana Festival will open on 28 June with a concert of film music by Tan Dun, who won an Oscar for his music for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The concert will be held in the Kongresni trg square.
At this year’s festival, Krzysztof Penderecki will conduct his Polish Requiem, Elīna Garanča will sing a selection of the most beautiful operatic arias, and Saint Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre under the baton of Valery Gergiev will perform the ballet Romeo and Juliet.
Other big names to appear at the festival include the renowned pianist Nikolai Lugansky, the Israel Symphony Orchestra with Zubin Mehta as conductor, the National Beijing Opera Company of China, who will perform the opera Turandot, and the Sofia National Opera and Ballet, who will perform the opera Tristan and Iseult.
The more relaxed events will include a concert by 2Cellos and the musicals Mamma Mia! and Autumn Blossoms. The festival will close on 28 September, with a concert by the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie.
Ljubljana Festival’s events take place at several locations in Ljubljana but most are held within Plečnik’s open-air complex at Križanke which was created within the abandoned former monastery especially for the festival. Major events are held on the Open-air Stage, while other venues include the Baroque-style Križanke Church, the Knight’s Hall and the ‘Courtyard of Hell’. Some of the events are also realised in Ursuline Church, the Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre, Slovene Philharmonic or at the Ljubljana Castle.
Ana Desetnica, Street theatre festival

It is international festival of a street theatre that takes place on several locations in the city center. At the time streets of Ljubljana work as one big theater.
The Ana Desetnica international street theatre festival will bring together a large number of street artistes, clowns, circus performers, jugglers, tightrope walkers, fire-eaters, musicians, “provocateurs”, dancers and actors from Slovenia and abroad.
56th Ljubljana Jazz Festival
1 July – 4 July 2015
Each year, the Ljubljana Jazz Festival features some of the world’s biggest names in jazz, attracting music lovers from home and abroad.
A member of the European Jazz Network, will present: 19 concerts featuring artists from 19 countries; three world premieres; the guitar, orchestra and Flemish/Belgian focuses; the 75th anniversary of James Blood Ulmer; Jazz Network Board and lively festival meeting points at venues throughout Ljubljana.
